Hotel Talout

South & Sahara desert hotels, Ouarzazate & Skoura

A 12-room hotel set on a hill overlooking the palmeraie, with views of the Atlas mountains and desert.

ABOUT: Occupying a hill overlooking Skoura’s palmeraie, the Sahara and the Atlas Mountains, this 12-room auberge-style hotel manages to be both comfortable and characterful.  Constructed in traditional southern mud-and-stone style and run by the famously friendly Abdelmoula Talout, a local from the nearby village, it boasts a pool, a roof terrace and a hammam.  Access is via a signposted track off the main road from Ouarzazate.

ROOMS: Each of the cosy, air-conditioned rooms is decorated with traditional materials – tamarisk wood, huge palm leaves, rugs, tadelakt plaster – and quirky heirlooms, and each has a small living area, hot shower in the bathroom and a view of the pool or palmeraie.  Suites come with a private terrace for extra privacy.

FACILITIES: The decent-sized (unheated) pool is surrounded by sun loungers, straw-topped parasols and two Berber-style tents.  Higher up, a large, shaded roof terrace has views in every scenic direction, and is a great place for dinner – traditional Moroccan meals like tagines, couscous and kebabs, plus home-cooked breads and vegetarian options, all made by Abdelmoula’s wife.  There’s also a dining room, a TV lounge with a fireplace, a new hammam, games and Wi-Fi.

EXTRA INFO:A range of excursions is available, from donkey trots around the palmeraie to tours of nearby salt mines and kasbahs, and 4x4 jaunts to the Valley of the Roses or to the Todra Gorge.  Trips to learn more about village crafts, such as pottery and basket weaving, are also available.

The Lawrence of Morocco map displays the locations of the destinations and accommodation that we have selected and visited; for each item, hovering over or clicking the marker will display a short summary and photo of that place or hotel, and hotel pricing. Follow the links in the info box to the full page listing which has much more information.

Note that the online map offers both a satellite view (click satellite in the top right) and, for some locations, a street level view (Drag the person in the top left onto the map). These let you explore the country; and when you wish to explore in person, or if you have any questions about the places you see, give our staff a call, or request a quote. Our staff regularly visit the places and accommodation that we feature.

When you book a holiday with us we will provide full driving instructions for reaching your accommodation, where necessary; these can be used by yourself, or you could enjoy the luxury of a driver. Alternatively we will arrange private (car rather than coach) transfers for you; helicopter transfers are also possible for some destinations.
