Ksar Assalassil

South & Sahara desert hotels, Erfoud & Merzouga

Simple but pleasant small hotel in the town of Erfoud.

ABOUT: A simple but pleasant hotel in a palm grove just outside Erfoud, Assalassil’s a great option for travellers en route to/from the Sahara, or for those who’d rather not sleep out on the dunes.  It boasts a garden pool, spacious rooms and happily-high walls to ward off strong desert winds.  The classical main building is designed in the precise style of an ancient caravanserai, its large central courtyard framed by equilateral arches.

ROOMS: In that main building, five suites and eight standard rooms await on the first floor.  All have a bathroom, air conditioning, a TV and Wi-Fi to go with traditional Moroccan fittings, high ceilings and a balcony.  Out in the garden, a small bungalow has five large, en-suite bedrooms with the same stylings plus air con, TVs and private terraces.

FACILITIES: Guests can enjoy North African and international cuisine inside the restaurant, or have it served in the large gardens, where vegetable and herb plants keep the palm trees company.  The pool’s here, too, plus a large sun terrace; back inside, hang-outs include a library, a large salon – Moroccan-style at one end, European at the other – and a music room with two pianos and traditional instruments.  Up top, the wide roof terrace has views to the desert and sunrises, sunsets and stargazing every bit as jaw-dropping as you’d guess.

EXTRA INFO: If you do fancy sleeping on Saharan sands, camping trips can be arranged.

The Lawrence of Morocco map displays the locations of the destinations and accommodation that we have selected and visited; for each item, hovering over or clicking the marker will display a short summary and photo of that place or hotel, and hotel pricing. Follow the links in the info box to the full page listing which has much more information.

Note that the online map offers both a satellite view (click satellite in the top right) and, for some locations, a street level view (Drag the person in the top left onto the map). These let you explore the country; and when you wish to explore in person, or if you have any questions about the places you see, give our staff a call, or request a quote. Our staff regularly visit the places and accommodation that we feature.

When you book a holiday with us we will provide full driving instructions for reaching your accommodation, where necessary; these can be used by yourself, or you could enjoy the luxury of a driver. Alternatively we will arrange private (car rather than coach) transfers for you; helicopter transfers are also possible for some destinations.
