The ultimate in luxury desert overnight camps.
The desert is a magical place. Tranquillity, clear skies, bright stars, simmering vistas, intense colours, big dunes and magical experiences. This can all be enjoyed in comfort at Erg Chigaga Luxury Camp.
The camp can accommodate 10 people in 5 tents. The tents are spacious (25 sq m). We have sourced the highest quality mattresses, linen and pillows, whilst each tent is equipped with ‘wall to wall rugs’, solar lighting and handcrafted furniture. Each tent has en suite facilities.
Situated in a quiet location near the highest dune in Morocco at Erg Chigaga, the camp is surrounded by dunes.
So, whether your preference is sand-boarding, camel-riding, walking, or just relaxing, the Erg Chigaga desert experience will stay in your memory forever.
The camp is closed from 20 May to 10 September due to the extreme summer heat.
The camp has five tents and can accommodate 10 people. For families there is ample room in each tent for 2 extra beds for your children. Each tent is en suite, with an adjoining washroom and toilet tent.
Each tent has a king-size bed (which can be made into 2 singles), with high quality individual sprung mattresses, percale cotton sheets, duck down duvets and choice of synthetic and duck down pillows. There are also ‘wall to wall’ plush rugs, a full-length mirror, bedside tables and solar lamps, an armchair and ottoman and space to hang your clothes. Each item has been handmade in Morocco.
From your bedroom you walk into your spacious bathroom, in a separate but adjoining tent. The bathroom has a toilet, make-up area, washbasin and wash area. Fluffy towels, soaps, argan oil, and other ‘goodies’ are also provided.
Due to the chronic shortage of water in the desert, instead of a shower we provide two 20-litre silver pewter buckets with hot and cold water. The bucket wash is incredibly invigorating and uses a fraction of water compared to a shower. It is a great way of washing oneself!
An alternative way of getting to the camp is to charter a helicopter or light aircraft. The helicopter can take up to 5 passengers and takes one-and-a-half hours. It lands at the camp. With respect to light aircraft, the only one currently available is an 18-seater Beachcraft. It lands at Zagora, from where it’s a two-and-a-half hour trip to the camp. The trips in both the helicopter and the light aircraft are amazing, with fantastic views of the Atlas Mountains, the lush valleys and the desert. The helicopter though can only fly over the mountains in fine weather, which is about 80% of the time. The light aircraft can fly over the Atlas Mountains in any weather. The helicopter costs about 5500 euro from Marrakech to the camp for a one-way trip. If returning within 24 hours the price is the same. To park the helicopter at the camp costs approx. 3000 euro per day. The light aircraft is cheaper. The price for a one-way trip from Marrakech to Zagora is approx. 3800 euro and increases marginally if there are more than 9 passengers. For the return trip the charge is about 4300 euro and an additional 250 euro for each day the plane is parked in Zagora.
