La Maison Arabe

Riads in Marrakech, Marrakech

Very well-run riad in the Bab Doukkala area of the medina of Marrakech.  Choice of Moroccan or French restaurants and lovely spa.

ABOUT

This ‘riad-hotel’ delights the eye as easily as its name trips off the tongue.  A handy medina (old town) location means souk-sourced bargains are but seconds away, and the Jemaa-el-Fna Square's but a ten-minute trot.  And if slumber’s the name of your game, you’re really in the right place.  The Maison itself has a central pool but, better still, also its own country club among olive groves outside the city.  It’s reached via a free 15-minute shuttle, and also boasts a pool.

ROOMS

Every one of the 12 rooms and 14 suites has lavish décor: think fine fabrics and hand-carved furnishings.  Deluxe rooms are more spacious than Standards, while some suites include private terraces.  All have air-con and Moroccan marble bathrooms.  To truly be king of the castle, rent the Douiria, a penthouse residence with three rooms and a suite with two terraces.

FACILITIES

A foodie hotspot, the Maison has always had gourmands gushing.  There are two options: Le Restaurant offers Moroccan fine-dining to a backdrop of traditional Moorish music, and the spectacular Les Trois Saveurs, illuminated by teardrop-shaped lanterns, dishes up imaginative French, Moroccan and Asian cuisine on a poolside terrace.  Cookery lessons from both are available at an additional cost.  Make sure to hit up the Piano Bar for post-dinner drinks, too.

MORE INFO

There’s free Wi-Fi everywhere, although you’re unlikely to use it while being scrubbed and rubbed in the extensive wellness centre.

La Maison Arabe Reviews

Cooking class at La Maison Arabe.

One of the best parts of the short trip was the cooking class at La Maison Arabe.  Wafaa Amagui, the workshop manager, made sure everything ran smoothly and I really appreciated how the class was geared to our level of experience. Many times, the classes are watered down and not so insightful, but it was not the case here.  I highly recommend this class to anyone who enjoys eating Moroccan food.

who stayed here in March 2013.
