Riad Camilia

Riads in Marrakech, Marrakech

Beautiful small and very charming riad with 6 rooms in a very interesting area of Marrakech's medina.

ABOUT

One of our favourite riad properties, this six-bedroom residence is accessed via secretive alleyways amid one of the city’s less-touristy (but wholly safe) quarters.  It’s also next door to a genuine Marrakech secret: the Madrasa Ben Youssef, a religious school that’s also one of the world’s most fabulous examples of Moorish architecture.

ROOMS

Each of the riad’s bright bedrooms is different.  The ground-floor Room 1 has a small private garden with banana trees, while the largest, the first-floor Room 4, claims a private terrace entrance and its own seating area.  All have air-conditioning (except Room 2) and Wi-Fi.

FACILITIES

It might be small, but the Camilia certainly isn’t limited. On the ground floor alone, there’s a small courtyard pool fringed by orange trees, two lounges and a glass-ceilinged dining room.  A small hammam and massage room (additional cost) have just been added, while, past a cosy winter lounge, the tree-lined roof terrace comes with comfy chaises longues, a pair of private solariums, two more small splash pools (not large enough to swim properly) and views over the local neighbourhood.

MORE INFO

If she’s in town, the eponymous Camilia can personally take guests on shopping tours around the souks, which are ten minutes away.  And, if she’s not, you can still sense her presence via the eclectic fixtures she has accumulated from around the world: an antique carpet here, a gorgeous lamp there…

The Lawrence of Morocco map displays the locations of the destinations and accommodation that we have selected and visited; for each item, hovering over or clicking the marker will display a short summary and photo of that place or hotel, and hotel pricing. Follow the links in the info box to the full page listing which has much more information.

Note that the online map offers both a satellite view (click satellite in the top right) and, for some locations, a street level view (Drag the person in the top left onto the map). These let you explore the country; and when you wish to explore in person, or if you have any questions about the places you see, give our staff a call, or request a quote. Our staff regularly visit the places and accommodation that we feature.

When you book a holiday with us we will provide full driving instructions for reaching your accommodation, where necessary; these can be used by yourself, or you could enjoy the luxury of a driver. Alternatively we will arrange private (car rather than coach) transfers for you; helicopter transfers are also possible for some destinations.

Riad Camilia Reviews

Your team did an excellent job.

Dear Max,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. It's only today I noticed that your email had wrongly reached my junk mail folder!

We had a wonderful holiday. Everything went smoothly from start to finish. Both Villa Maroc and Riad Camilia exceeded our expectations and were perfect places to stay both having very friendly, helpful staff and good food. Nicolas at Riad Camilia deserves a special mention for being the perfect host! We enjoyed a half day historic tour of Marrakesh with our guide, Nora, who was great. It was well worth the money as I did find Marrakesh, at least at first, quite a daunting place to get around, especially the medina. I would not normally book excursions/tours as I prefer doing things myself but having a local person showing us around and informing us about the culture and history was a godsend, and made me and my sister far more confident about exploring the city on our own.

I'm hard pressed to think of any negative points about the holiday as I think your team did an excellent job and everything fitted into place perfectly.Booking with Lawrence of Morocco took the hard work out of planning the holiday and I will certainly recommend the company to friends.

From what I have seen of Morocco so far, I think it is a very interesting country with a fascinating culture, lovely people and glorious weather! I think my only tiny complaint is that will did endure some low-level harrasment in the souks from shopowners desperate to sell us things. It did get very tiresome after a while and put us off staying very long. I completely understand the need to make a living but it was a bit offputting for me. On a return visit to the country I would be more inclined to visit less touristy places to avoid this.

I have 'liked' on Facebook. Many thanks to you, Emma, Souad and the rest of the team.

Best wishes,

Frances

The Riad Camilia was terrific

The Riad Camilia was terrific – Nicholas looked after us really well and was a mine of information.
We ate all of our meals in the Riad except for the first night.  As the hotel wasn’t full Nicholas moved us to a small private dining room, which was lovely, when it was just the two of us eating in. Although my husband did find the low seats rather trying. All the staff were most helpful.

Like stepping into an Oasis.

Coming into Riad Camilia from the chaos in the streets was like stepping into an Oasis.
Room  4 was super.

Nicholas could not do enough for us. Enjoyed our meal in the Riad the first night in our room where the lovely log fire was lit.
Nicholas provided us with delicious wine. Our breakfast on the roof and drinks and nibbles at night before going out were
exceptional. My husband and I enjoyed having the log fire on every night upon returning from our meals in various restaurants.

Cannot recommend Riad Camilia enough and Nicholas’ kind hospitality.

Will be recommending to all our friends.

Riad Camelia was superb.

Riad Camelia was superb; very stylish and comfortable and Nicholas the manager is a real asset. We got happily lost in the souks, ate local, splurged at the Fondouk restaurant and yes, bought a Berber rug which looks great. Three night/four days was ideal. Our room (1) was lovely and the rooftop eating space ditto. A really lovely place to stay.

Went the extra mile.

Again the transfer to Riad Camilia was very slick. As you predicted Nicholas made us feel very welcome and could not do enough for us.  He definitely went the extra mile though in making sure our stay was memorable in terms of the service and food he provided.  Our last meal in particular on the roof terrace with the mosques calling those to prayer will remain embedded in our memories for ever.  We would all like to return to Morroco to visit the coast and mountains sometime.
