Asni & Imlil Holidays

Located in the foothills of the Atlas mountains, Asni is a well visited small Berber town. About 50 minutes drive from Marrakech the souk or market is on Saturday. It can be quite busy there on souk day and local hustlers can be a little overwhelming. The drive from Marrakech to Asni is very pretty. In Asni there are a few cafes where one can find a good tagine for lunch overlooking the river, where women can be seen doing their washing and carpets are laid out to dry on bushes.

Turn left at Asni and follow this road for about 7 km to Imlil where life is much calmer and quieter. Imlil is a small Berber village in a stunning valley where you can go for the day and pick up a local mountain guide who will take you on a short or long walk through some of the most beautiful scenery Morocco has to offer.  Finish up for tea in a Berber home and enjoy the wonderful natural hospitality of these kind mountain people.

The Lawrence of Morocco map displays the locations of the destinations and accommodation that we have selected and visited; for each item, hovering over or clicking the marker will display a short summary and photo of that place or hotel, and hotel pricing. Follow the links in the info box to the full page listing which has much more information.

Note that the online map offers both a satellite view (click satellite in the top right) and, for some locations, a street level view (Drag the person in the top left onto the map). These let you explore the country; and when you wish to explore in person, or if you have any questions about the places you see, give our staff a call, or request a quote. Our staff regularly visit the places and accommodation that we feature.

When you book a holiday with us we will provide full driving instructions for reaching your accommodation, where necessary; these can be used by yourself, or you could enjoy the luxury of a driver. Alternatively we will arrange private (car rather than coach) transfers for you; helicopter transfers are also possible for some destinations.

I would definitely recommend Lawrence of Morocco to friends and relatives..

Dear Max,

Everything went really well, thank you. We found both the Maroc Lodge and Villa Maroc, excellent. The food was also great in both places - we only had b & b at Villa Maroc but we did eat there on the first evening and it was very good. The food at Maroc Lodge was outstanding. I couldn't fault …

The best dinner spot was at the riad hotel we were staying, Villa Maroc, where they serve huge platters of meat or fish tagine by candlelight.

Novelist Anna Stothard travelled to Essaouira with Lawrence of Morocco in August 2012, writing for the Observer Magazine.
