ABOUT: Sitting tranquilly inside a forest 15 minutes outside Essaouira, Les Jardins had been a luxurious private residence until its recent conversion into a charming boutique villa.  Its two stylish suites and one chic bedroom able to rented individually or as a whole, the eco-friendly retreat boasts a pool, spa, restaurant and tangible, indulgent serenity: the main soundtrack here is birdsong, plus the occasional splash or palpable sigh of satisfaction.

ROOMS: The double room has a patio and its own bathroom; also sleeping two is the bigger Minzeh Suite.  Families of four are directed towards the Figuier Suite, with one double bed, two twins and a shared bathroom under a wood-beamed ceiling.  All chambers feature jetted bathtubs, fireplaces, air-conditioning and Wi-Fi.

FACILITIES:The property frames a beautiful, heated pool and spacious courtyard: this is also open to guests of Essaouira sister hotel Villa Maroc, who can come for lunch at the poolside bar, and to use the facilities.  Those include small salons, an on-site hammam for scrubs, massages and beauty treatments – plus special children’s massages – and those titular, peaceful gardens.  The restaurant serves a creative, daily-changing menu of local Souiri, wider Moroccan and international cuisine, using as much local produce as possible.  Cookery classes are available on request.

EXTRA INFO:For a change of scene, take a short stroll down a dirt track to Babel, a Mediterranean-specialist restaurant with its own swimming pool, sun loungers and cocktails.
