La Sultana Oualidia

Coastal hotels & riads in Morocco, Oualidia

Luxury in a very simple setting on the lagoon of Oualidia.

ABOUT: Luxury doesn’t come much simpler.  Situated yards from a seven-mile-long, Atlantic Ocean-fed lagoon, La Sultana Oualidia is a boutique hotel in splendid, ivory-tower isolation, and easily the area’s most sophisticated residence.  The remote, seaside setting and architectural style mean it’s perfect for those seeking a genuine luxury bolthole, while fans of watersports, seafood and spas will also be in luck.

ROOMS: Elegantly styled using lots of local materials - tadelakt plaster walls, zellig tiles, wooden flooring – the 11 rooms and suites scream (or whisper, rather) serenity.  They come with plasma-screen TVs, Wi-Fi, air-conditioning and marble bathrooms, but the headline acts are outside: each has its own terrace and sea-water Jacuzzi. There are treehouse and ‘apartment’ suites, should you wish to splurge.

FACILITIES: Located near one of Morocco’s best oyster beds, La Sultana specialises in cooking salty stuff.  Eat it in an unusual sunken dining room, facing the lagoon, or privately on a waterside deck. A stroll past palm trees and bougainvillea in the hotel’s terraced gardens is blissful; a splash in the 40m-long infinity pool equally so. And the spa’s indoor heated pool and massage rooms await.

EXTRA INFO: La Sultana also has its own private beach, next to another pool.  Take a flamingo-spotting boat trip on the lagoon, or arrange a fishing, walking or surfing lessons.

The Lawrence of Morocco map displays the locations of the destinations and accommodation that we have selected and visited; for each item, hovering over or clicking the marker will display a short summary and photo of that place or hotel, and hotel pricing. Follow the links in the info box to the full page listing which has much more information.

Note that the online map offers both a satellite view (click satellite in the top right) and, for some locations, a street level view (Drag the person in the top left onto the map). These let you explore the country; and when you wish to explore in person, or if you have any questions about the places you see, give our staff a call, or request a quote. Our staff regularly visit the places and accommodation that we feature.

When you book a holiday with us we will provide full driving instructions for reaching your accommodation, where necessary; these can be used by yourself, or you could enjoy the luxury of a driver. Alternatively we will arrange private (car rather than coach) transfers for you; helicopter transfers are also possible for some destinations.

A wonderful time!

Max,

A big thank you to you and all your staff both here at home and in Morocco.

We had a wonderful time and based on the trip you arranged for us we will all be returning to Morocco in the future.

A special thank you to our local drivers and guides.

The staff at both hotels were a delight with a special mention for the staff (particularly the waiters at La Sultana) who made the dining an experience.

Kind regards.

Hard pushed to find fault.

Dear Max,

We had an excellent holiday in Morocco thank you and would be hard pushed to find fault.
The 3 hotels (Bab Ourika, Villa des Orangers and La Sultana Oualidia) were all superb and all the transfers etc. worked fine.
If we had to pick anything out which might be improved there are only potentially 2 things.
The first is that to get to Bab Ourika, understandably a 4-wheel-drive vehicle is needed and those we had for the transfers were slightly small for 4 people with luggage. The second thing to mention is that our guide for the tour of the Medina in Marrakesh (Ali) was a very nice man but he did take us to the Souks for a long time and we had to endure the obligatory sales pitch in a carpet shop, billed as a co-operative where we would learn about carpet-making (we didn't). We came out without buying anything (feeling slightly awkward) but it might have been better if he had warned us first.
But we're splitting hairs really. We thoroughly enjoyed it all and will definitely recommend you to anyone we know thinking of taking a holiday in Morocco.

Kind regards,
Hugh Griffiths

This place really hit the spot for us.

This place really hit the spot for us. As an architect, I really appreciated the building design and fit out. I can honestly say that the restaurant provided some of the most memorable meals we've experienced. The "coupe de gras" was the loan of the restaurant managers personal fishing gear to give me the opportunity to wander out across the samphire with nobody except the curlews for company - wonderful.

All in all, a terrific experience for which we thank you so much - as Patten said "we shall return" !

La Sultana was a gem.

La Sultana was a gem. Really good service and nice other families staying there. Surfing and hiking on the dune were great. Best choice for us – the other place would have been too simple.

So great food, great rooms, great set-up!

At la Sultana, the service was great. We had the rooms as requested but they were set up with the three children in the apartment and us in the junior suite. They switched it without any problem. You should know that the junior suite has a day bed on the first floor above the bedroom that converts into a good bed. In fact, since it was more comfortable than the additional rollaway bed in our apartment, that is where my 6 foot son slept and was very happy. He had his own room and private balcony.

Comparing from the brief look at the town when we arrived and the luxury of the Sultana, we finally ate all of our meals at the resort. The food was always great. I guess an all-inclusive might have been cheaper!?! We went surfing one day but the waves weren't big enough. We did not even do it the next day as surfing condition were worst. We took an early boat and went jogging along the sea coast on two days. Amazing views!  So great food, great rooms, great set-up!

Seafood at dinner on all 3 nights was great!

Transfer to La Sultana was effortless  - although as  I mentioned it did take around 3.5 hours due to some roadworks

The hotel itself was great   - the staff very accommodating  - room was again comfortable  - bathroom adequate but quite small
The seafood at dinner on all 3 nights was great
We went to the local market / souk on the Saturday and surprise surprise Leslie managed to spend more money   - this really was for locals only but fortunately my Arabic is good enough to bargain!

Great place, quite luxurious with very attentive staff.

La Sultana was another fine experience..we were upgraded again when the house manager detected that the view we had wasn't quite what we were expecting ( he was very aware to spot that) So, great place, quite luxurious with very attentive staff, lovely food and very tranquil location. The Manager Khalil was enthusiastic, engaging and very helpful. We walked quite a lot during our stay, and I would say that 4 or 5 days would have been enough as there is not really too much else to see around that area. Bird watchers delight though.

We were blown away by 'La Sultana'...

We enjoyed the drive to Oulidia and were blown away by 'La Sultana'. Fabulous position, staff could not do enough, room was splendid, particularly enjoyed the log fire in the evening.
