Riad Dar One

Riads in Marrakech, Marrakech

A six-room riad with pool and 24-hour service

ABOUT: With its sensual colours—a chocolate-brown wall here, a white-leather chaise lounge and giant black plant pot there—original woodwork, thick velvet curtains and low lighting, this luxurious, Zen-like riad definitively ticks the style box.  Nor do a courtyard plunge pool and beautiful roof terrace hurt.  Located in the medina’s old Jewish quarter, within strolling distance of the Jemaa-el-Fna square, this six-room boutique hotel will please anyone seeking chic, centrally-located serenity.

ROOMS: Their names a reference to French pilot and author Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, Dar One’s six rooms all boast air-conditioning and Wi-Fi; some also include a fireplace. The honey-toned, first-floor Mirage Room has a sumptuous feel thanks to a copper chandelier and thick silk fabrics, while the Duna Room is the biggest, and tempts with high ceilings, a sitting area and a large bathtub.  The Sirocco Room has its own private terrace.

FACILITIES: Next to the plunge pool is a sleepy lounge, with a fireplace for cool evenings.  Dinners booked in advance may be eaten here, or up on the rooftop.  A total suntrap, that same vantage offers still more chaise lounges, plus daybeds under a muslin canopy.  Lanterns and candles render sunset-watching and stargazing especially romantic.

EXTRA INFO:Guests can accompany chef Amina to the local food and spice markets, before learning to make classic Moroccan dishes. Charismatic owner Jean is also able to arrange other day trips, including horse-riding adventures outside the city.

The Lawrence of Morocco map displays the locations of the destinations and accommodation that we have selected and visited; for each item, hovering over or clicking the marker will display a short summary and photo of that place or hotel, and hotel pricing. Follow the links in the info box to the full page listing which has much more information.

Note that the online map offers both a satellite view (click satellite in the top right) and, for some locations, a street level view (Drag the person in the top left onto the map). These let you explore the country; and when you wish to explore in person, or if you have any questions about the places you see, give our staff a call, or request a quote. Our staff regularly visit the places and accommodation that we feature.

When you book a holiday with us we will provide full driving instructions for reaching your accommodation, where necessary; these can be used by yourself, or you could enjoy the luxury of a driver. Alternatively we will arrange private (car rather than coach) transfers for you; helicopter transfers are also possible for some destinations.

Riad Dar One Reviews

Dar One was wonderful.

Riad Dar One was wonderful.  The cooking course we had booked through Dar One was also great and the food delicious. The only thing I would say about it was it was a bit of a shame we did not get more hands on opportunity and It would have been helpful to have the recipe written down for us to take away to try at home – having said that we could have been more organised and brought our own pen and paper!
