The Capaldi

Mountain Hotels in Morocco, Amizmiz

A 23-room hotel set on an old olive farm of 4 hectares with pools, spa and cinema.

ABOUT: A luxury country estate set scenically in the Atlas Mountain foothills, The Capaldi is run by Ed and Tara Lyle, hosts who’ll greet you like long-lost friends.  Their relaxing retreat occupies the ten-acre grounds of a former olive farm, and supplements 23 rooms and suites with two swimming pools, a spa, a restaurant and even a 24-seat cinema.  Marrakech is a 35-minute drive away.

ROOMS:  There are nine categories of room and suite, from Farmhouse Rooms in the main mud-brick building up to Deluxe Pool Suites with walled gardens.  Spacious and Zen-like, all the rooms boast king-size beds, fireplaces, silk pillows, lanterns and tile-and-tadelakt finishes, and most have a window-facing bathtub in their en-suite bathroom.  All but the Standard Farmhouse and Prestige Rooms offer private outdoor space, while Egyptian linens, stacks of books and artisanal soaps come as standard.

FACILITIES: The bigger of the pools is heated and leads onto the landscaped gardens, themselves dotted with loungers and blissed-out bookworms.  Behind is the extensive spa, with a hammam, massages, rose baths and a small gym on hand.  Locally-sourced, international-cuisine dinners can be enjoyed on the main patio, on the lantern-lit roof terrace—excellent for stargazing—or inside the grand restaurant.

EXTRA INFO:The ever-attentive Lyles regularly send guests off on hikes to Lake Lalla Takerkoust (where fishing and jet-skiing are available) with a pre-programmed mobile phone and a picnic lunch.  Quad-biking, hot-air balloon trips and camel excursions are also possible.

The Lawrence of Morocco map displays the locations of the destinations and accommodation that we have selected and visited; for each item, hovering over or clicking the marker will display a short summary and photo of that place or hotel, and hotel pricing. Follow the links in the info box to the full page listing which has much more information.

Note that the online map offers both a satellite view (click satellite in the top right) and, for some locations, a street level view (Drag the person in the top left onto the map). These let you explore the country; and when you wish to explore in person, or if you have any questions about the places you see, give our staff a call, or request a quote. Our staff regularly visit the places and accommodation that we feature.

When you book a holiday with us we will provide full driving instructions for reaching your accommodation, where necessary; these can be used by yourself, or you could enjoy the luxury of a driver. Alternatively we will arrange private (car rather than coach) transfers for you; helicopter transfers are also possible for some destinations.

The Capaldi Reviews

Perfect for a few days relaxing in the sun.

It was sunny at the Capaldi and the room was spacious with lots of natural light. The grounds were exceptionally attractive, very well planted and cultivated. The chef was French and the food very good. It was pretty perfect for a few days relaxing in the sun, with a bit of swimming and walking. The countryside round about is an interesting mix of olive groves, gardens, scrub and villages; good for walking and locals friendly. The manager and owners are very visible - pleasant and helpful, as were all the staff. There were  mainly British people there, and the hotel is not particularly Moroccan except in style (felt like a cross between Morocco and Provence), so I imagine that it would be good for Brits who were a bit anxious about Marrakech.
