Le Palais Paysan

Mountain Hotels in Morocco, Amizmiz

16 room rural boutique hotel with sublime views to the Atlas Mountains and its own small farm.

ABOUT: Life happens at a slower pace for guests of Le Palais Paysan, a small design-hotel at the foot of the Atlas Mountains.  Marrakech is a mere 30 minutes away, but all eyes at ‘The Peasant Palace’ gaze elsewhere: namely towards the looming Jebel Toubkal, North Africa’s highest peak.  With the only commotion an occasional bray or bleat from the hotel’s farm, where donkeys, sheep and goats reside, this really is the perfect post-city dust-down: a chic, restorative dose of rural Moroccan life.

ROOMS: Decorated in a modernist style, the hotel’s 16 rooms all have uplifting Atlas views.  Ground-floor rooms have terraces opening onto gardens; higher quarters have balconies.  Air-conditioning, Wi-Fi and TVs tick mod-con boxes, zellige-tiled bathrooms nod to Moroccan tradition, and exposed brick floors and Indian headdresses effortlessly ramp up the style factor.

FACILITIES: Steam baths and argan-oil massages await in the beautiful basement spa, while an outdoor Jacuzzi offers still more snow-capped mountain-scapes at which to wonder.  There’s also a 28m (unheated) pool, with the adjacent ‘Pool House’ serving grilled meats, sandwiches and salads under a thatched pagoda.  The main restaurant serves wonderful tagines and spiced briouates (flaky-pastry parcels), as well as some Mediterranean offerings. And there’s an excellent wine list.

EXTRA INFO:  Spectacular walks, including up into the High Atlas, can be arranged by charming French manager Laurent.  So too can donkey trots, horse-rides, mountain-biking, skiing, picnics and rounds of golf.

The Lawrence of Morocco map displays the locations of the destinations and accommodation that we have selected and visited; for each item, hovering over or clicking the marker will display a short summary and photo of that place or hotel, and hotel pricing. Follow the links in the info box to the full page listing which has much more information.

Note that the online map offers both a satellite view (click satellite in the top right) and, for some locations, a street level view (Drag the person in the top left onto the map). These let you explore the country; and when you wish to explore in person, or if you have any questions about the places you see, give our staff a call, or request a quote. Our staff regularly visit the places and accommodation that we feature.

When you book a holiday with us we will provide full driving instructions for reaching your accommodation, where necessary; these can be used by yourself, or you could enjoy the luxury of a driver. Alternatively we will arrange private (car rather than coach) transfers for you; helicopter transfers are also possible for some destinations.

Le Palais Paysan Reviews

Lovely place.

Le palais paysan- amazing place and setting. Staff were very nice and much better trained but far too few of them which really impacted on service. Laurent very charming but how he manages with so few staff is beyond me. Lovely place. Menu a bit limited but nice food all the same.
