An ideal location to combine relaxation with stunning views of the lake and exploring the Draa Valley, the Dades and Todra Gorges.
ABOUT
Space – or “the magic of vacancy”, as the hotel attractively labels it – abounds at Les Tourmalines thanks to its waterside setting. Sitting pretty on the edge of Lake El Mansour, 12 miles from Ouarzazate inside a newish development, the guesthouse is also ideally positioned for exploring the Draa River valley and the Dades and Todra gorges, with their thousands of kasbahs (forts). Owned and managed by a delightful French couple, Les Tourmalines works well as both a southern circuit stop, or as a longer-stop base for seeing this scenic area.
ROOMS
Each of the 12 rooms are quite large, and come armed with a Moroccan sitting room area, air-conditioning and small private terraces. Sleeping four, the solitary luxury suite boasts all the above plus extra space and a TV.
FACILITIES
Designed to merge with the lake, Les Tourmalines infinity pool sits right on the water’s edge. Surrounding it is a wide terrace, where breakfast and sometimes lunch are served, and on which a sunset (over the lake) aperitif is highly recommended. Dinner – high-quality Moroccan and French cuisine – is dished up in a Berber-style tent in the adjacent gardens.
EXTRA INFO
Very close by are Morocco’s largest stables: horses and camels can be hired by the hour (about £12) or day (about £40 including lunch). Les Tourmalines itself can schedule 4x4 excursions, quad-biking, tennis and cycling tours, plus provide canoes to explore the lake. Note that the arrival is through a partly unfinished development but worth it!
The Lawrence of Morocco map displays the locations of the destinations and accommodation that we have selected and visited; for each item, hovering over or clicking the marker will display a short summary and photo of that place or hotel, and hotel pricing. Follow the links in the info box to the full page listing which has much more information.
Note that the online map offers both a satellite view (click satellite in the top right) and, for some locations, a street level view (Drag the person in the top left onto the map). These let you explore the country; and when you wish to explore in person, or if you have any questions about the places you see, give our staff a call, or request a quote. Our staff regularly visit the places and accommodation that we feature.
When you book a holiday with us we will provide full driving instructions for reaching your accommodation, where necessary; these can be used by yourself, or you could enjoy the luxury of a driver. Alternatively we will arrange private (car rather than coach) transfers for you; helicopter transfers are also possible for some destinations.
Les Tormalines was the least 'Moroccan' of the hotels but the setting is wonderful - the main meal was fine and the staff were friendly.
